ACADEMIC OR SCIENTIFIC POSITION, AFFILIATION

Full Professor

EDUCATION

1991-BSc Hons, Parasitology, University of Glasgow, 1996 – PhD, University of Edinburgh, Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Sciences, 1998 – Postdoctoral Research Fellowship, University of Edinburgh

Research scientist with over 25 years’ experience working with parasitic nematodes of humans and animals. My research focus has been discovery of new anthelmintic targets, elucidating the mechanism of action of existing anthelmintics, drug resistance mechanisms and nematode neurobiology. Since most anti-nematodal drug classes act on ion channels I have developed a significant expertise in the neuroscience methods required to investigate these complex membrane proteins. I have experience working at the whole organism (larval studies), tissue (muscle contraction), cellular (whole cell electrophysiology) and molecular (single-channel patch clamp) level. I have over 70 peer reviewed publications in the field.
